Information on Bormio
“An ancient centre of great importance due to its geographical
position, Bormio has determinedly retained its features, its character
of a long time ago maintaining outlines, customs and sentiments
which have crystallised throughout the centuries. Still today we
can see incredible traces of ancient customs, the remains of pre-Christian
cults and traditions which have lasted for many centuries.”
(Glicerio Longa, “Usi e Costumi del Bormiese”, 1912)
From this short description written at the beginning of the last century we can realise how Bormio,
even before it became an internationally famous tourist resort,
had a very rich and fascinating history deeply rooted in ancient times.
Its origins, thousands of years old, offer its visitors artistic, architectural and historic glimpses of rare beauty,
unique in the entire Alpine range. Bormio,
with its glorious past as a County, is still today rich in history, culture and traditions.
Immersed in the unpolluted natural surroundings of the Stelvio
National Park, the charming valley of Bormio is the ideal place
to spend a totally relaxing holiday in the mountains.
The new and modern lift facilities and artificial snow system, covering
an area of more than 220 km. of ski runs suitable for all levels,
guarantee a perfect covering of snow at all times and the absence
of queues even during the most crowded periods. The Stelvio glacier,
open from May to November, allows visitors to go skiing in summertime,
availing of an offer which lasts all year long.
After a long day skiing you can soak in the warm thermal spa waters
in the Bormio
Spa Centres , famous and appreciated from Roman times, choosing
any of the three large and very new wellbeing centres present in
the town. You can also dedicate yourself to one of the numerous
activities that the Alta Valtellina offers you: unforgettable walks
along so many paths surrounded by greenery, walking or mountain
bike excursions, challenges on the great ascents which have made
history in the cycling world (Stelvio, Gavia, Mortirolo).
For the more active sportsmen there is also a nine-hole golf
course and the Ice Skating Stadium
All this enhanced with local gastronomic flavours and the typical products
which guarantee you an unforgettable holiday.
