Bormio, at the heart of the 2026 Winter Games for the men’s alpine skiing events

On the legendary Stelvio slope – considered one of the most technical and spectacular in the world – the five men’s alpine skiing events will take place:

Downhill

Super-G

Slalom

Giant Slalom

Team Combined event

The Alpine skiing is one of the most popular and widely practiced winter sports worldwide. It has been an Olympic discipline since the 1936 Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Legends such as Lasse Kjus, Hermann Maier, Andreas Schifferer, Hannes Trinkl, Fritz Stobl, Stephan Eberharter, Michael Walchhofer, Luc Alphand, Daron Rahlves, and Bode Miller have all triumphed on the Stelvio.

Among the Italian victories, Christof Innerhofer stands out, along with the undisputed KING of the STELVIO, Dominik Paris.

Also in Bormio, in 1995 exactly 20 years after Gustav Thoeni, Alberto Tomba cheered on by 40,000 passionate fans, won the overall World Cup as well as the Giant Slalom and Slalom titles.

New Olympic Event: Ski Mountaineering debuts in Bormio

For the first time ever, ski mountaineering will be included in the Olympic Games, with three exciting events hosted in Bormio:

  • Men's Sprint
  • Women's Sprint
  • Mixed Relay

In its most well-known form, ski mountaineering is a spectacular, demanding, and fascinating sport that allows athletes to admire breathtaking landscapes, blending history and nature in a 360-degree experience.

Italy has a long and prestigious tradition in this sport, and in particular, Valtellina and Bormio have produced numerous world champions who have written the history of this discipline, including:

  • Men: Guido Giacomelli, Michele Boscacci, Robert Antonioli
  • Women: Roberta Pedranzini, Francesca Martinelli
